MOVIE REVIEW: "The Cabin In The Woods"

"The Cabin In The Woods" is a tough movie to talk about. The less you know about it, the better, right? For  a movie that was meant for release in 2010, it is sure full of surprises and it's best not to spoil them. So what makes this film so good, that critics and horror fans can't stop raving about it? Well, let's find out, shall we???

"Cabin" has the star of "Thor," Chris Hemsworth, and his band of usual horror movie suspects enjoying some time in said cabin in the woods. What happens during and after that... that's for you to find out.

As I said before, the film was meant to come out in 2010 after many issues with studios. Lionsgate finally brings us the movie, which was written by "Buffy" creator and "Avengers" director Joss Whedon and fellow "Buffy" collaborator Drew Goddard (who is also the director here). It definitely shows their love for the horror genre, along with giving the audience a few new twists and turns that will leave them guessing every minute.

The cast do a great job with the material given to them, as they have to balance from being scary to being really funny at times. The special effects also are worth noting, but again... can't spoil anything. All I can say is those old-school horror fans will be grinning from ear to ear during some of the scenes.

Now, the movie is not perfect, as some things in the story get lost along the way and there were people during my showing who did not like how it ended. It's not for everyone, but I will say for those true horror movie nuts who cannot stand the recent trend of horror... this is a must-see. For me, there hasn't been a really good scary movie in the past couple of years, but this one comes very close. Very different, very original, but still enough to consider it an homage to the classics that came before it. So watch "Cabin In The Woods," especially while it is in the theaters. Nothing says fun like watching a whole room of people squirm in terror and having a good time doing it too!

8/10

P.S. For the Buffy/Angel fans (like me), keep an eye out for some familiar faces. Joss really loves his people, after all!
